Once Was a Tree
Wesley college, South Perth campus
Stainless steel with jarrah inserts
2.5 x 3.4m
Commissioned by Wesley College and the City of South Perth, Once Was a Tree was completed in 2017. It has been inspired by the rainforests of the Amazon, which described as the 'lungs of our planet', are tragically being logged at a rate of 36 football fields per. minute.
Unless we change how we see our relationship with nature, and how we belong to it, our children will be standing under steel trees in museums, wondering what a rainforest looked like.
