About

About

Born and trained in London, Robin Yakinthou is a sculptor and painter working in Western Australia.

His work is designed to create contrasts, and continuously shift in relationship with the time of day, light intensity, and evolving landscape. This reflects his philosophy as an artist; he brings to each of his projects an ability to first and foremost see creative energy in everyday forms and activities that have become invisible in the rush of our everyday lives.

He works extensively with marine-grade stainless steel; a timeless material that embraces the tomorrow, but bewitches us with the present moment, sits with future technologies, but speaks of the earth from which it is drawn; combining industrial with modern. At the same time that it reflects us, it distorts us also, capturing our imagination and our eye. Much of his work comments on the environmental and political landscape that we have created for ourselves.

His portfolio of work speaks to his ability to transform initial ideas and concepts into detailed and striking 3D forms. His last several sculptures are marked by strong verticality, which require particularly complex sub-structures that are designed working closely with structural engineers.

He is represented in private and public collections in Australia and Europe, and has won numerous awards for his work.

14 unique and individual pieces, each representing the 14 Stations of the Cross.

These works chronicle and bring to life a visual narrative that speaks to us of the last day of Jesus, from his trial and

condemnation to his crucifixion. Through the use of space and the transformative capacity of sculpture, these works create a moment of pause for a more profound spiritual connection for those who chose to engage with them at  multiple levels. Seated contemplation and meditation are facilitated by the work, as well as connecting these specific pieces to the Stations of the Cross.
